It is the greatest recurring challenge faced by the Indian Men’s Cricket Team, and one that has proved insurmountable for generations of superstar players and otherwise world-beating sides – taking on Australia in Test cricket, Down Under.
Though perceived as a ‘modern’ rivalry, particularly compared to the Ashes, India’s quest for victory on Aussie soil dates back to 1947 – the year the country gained independence – and the two nations now highly prize the Border–Gavaskar Trophy.
India’s 71-Year Test charts how a confident and talented touring side of 2018/19 was finally able to reach the summit, marking another pivotal shift in the order of global cricket.
The book collects memorable matches, player profiles, key statistics and over 200 images from the first 12 tours to Australia – many of which were brought to light thanks to the Bradman Museum’s Holman Collection of historical press photographs.

Outcome.
It is an honour to launch India’s 71-Year Test. The history of Indian–Australian cricket goes deep, and once you read this book you will know where I’m coming from. You get goosebumps when you read it. The early stages: the Lala Armanaths coming here, the Vinoo Mankads coming here, Bradman playing against India, Vijay Hazare getting two hundreds in a Test – it’s fascinating, and it goes on and on. Some great players have performed extremely well in Australia over the years, and it is a rich history. This is a fantastic read.”
